Help us rate Coffs! In a first for the region, we are conducting Place Score surveys to 'score' how unique, vibrant and exciting these places are in the eyes of the community. Coffs Harbour's Place Score survey will ask residents to identify what they value in their neighbourhood and then rate how it is performing. The results will identify what is contributing positively and negatively to their experience to determine the priorities for improving liveability for local communities.
We need enthusiastic students with good communication skills to undertake free Place Score survey training and then go out to conduct face-to-face surveys across the Local Government Area. This is an awesome opportunity to gain real-world experience in community consultation and engagement, local planning and design, tourism and events (you may find yourself at Rally or OzTag events), community development and more…
This project will give us robust data (Place Scores) for all neighbourhoods in the Local Government Area. This will be the first time we can measure our different 'places' to gain a numerical benchmark to diagnose problems, identify priorities and measure change to understand where we are doing well and where there is room for improvement. We are looking for students who have good interpersonal skills and ability to use smart phone for taking online surveys.
Council is in frequent consultation with the community to assist in better shaping the places they live, work and play in through qualitative feedback. This project will help us better plan 'places' and facilitate a range of Council initiatives (such as an Integrated Transport Strategy).
• Receive personalised training in the Place Score survey
• Gain on the ground experience in taking surveys and collecting data
• Gain real-world community consultation and engagement experience
• Be part of a live Council project (the first time we've ever done this!) and see the outcomes
• Immerse yourself in local community life in new and unfamiliar areas and hear what is important to people.
• Help shape your own community by conducting surveys with other people and by completing it yourself.
Students! Enthusiastic and reliable students who are willing to travel (if required) across the local government area to help us conduct surveys.
We will provide training and support (Place Score), as well as loan smart phones to allow students to conduct surveys in the field. We will also acknowledge the contribution and involvement of students in the project.
