Overview

Aims

The Analytical Research Laboratory in Southern Cross Plant Science undertakes commercial work and research specialising in chemical analysis of plant products and other biological substances. By facilitating student projects and internships the ARL aims to provide students with relevant training and experience in laboratory research and commercial practice.

Outcomes

Internship students would contribute to the day to day commercial operations of the ARL including sample preparation and range of chemical analyses, for herbal authentication, phytochemical quantification, essential oil and lipid profiling. Project students would undertake specific research projects negotiated with a supervisor, such as investigating botanical origin and sample conformance in herbal authentication, novel uses for Australian medicinal plants or analysis of chemical diversity in extracts from Citrus and Passiflowers.
